Michael Hamm Obituary

Michael Jeffrey "Mikey" Hamm, of New York, passed away on January 7, 2012, in Fort Worth, surrounded by many friends and his family. Memorial services have been scheduled for 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Crestview Baptist Church, with Dr. John Gerlach and Dr. Larry Ashlock, officiating. The family will receive friends at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Mikey was born on June 24, 1983, in Midland, to Richard and Jamie Hamm. Mike attended Robert E. Lee High School, where he was a member of the student council and the cheerleading team. During his high school years, Mike was also a member of the Midland Community Theatre Pickwick Players. Mike's family loved watching him as lead in several plays at Midland Community Theatre. Upon graduation from Robert E. Lee High School in 2002, Mike attended Texas State University. Mike met many friends and made many memories during his time at Texas State and while living and working in Austin, Texas. Two years ago, Mike's dream of moving to New York City came true. He and one of his best friends took the plunge together and have enjoyed every minute of it. Mike worked as a freelance illustrator as well as in a retail shop selling knick-knacks as eclectic as he was. Mike enjoyed "doodling" and designing shirts and postcards for all of his family and friends. His unique creative design was popular with everyone who was lucky enough to receive a drawing, shirt, or card from him. Most recently, Mike designed shirts that were worn by pop music star Rhianna's backup dancers. Mike will forever be remembered as the man with the red mustache who had the biggest heart in the world. Mike will not only dance on in the hearts of all his family and friends, but also in the lives of the many people he touched through the life gift organ donor program. Mike is survived by his parents, Jamie and Rick Hamm; his sisters, Halee Hamm and Jennifer Hamm-Henshaw, Jennifer's fiancé, Bryan Bishop and his children, Kellee and Brayden Bishop; his niece, Addison Grace Henshaw; his Mimi and Grandaddy, Jody and Merv Hale. Mike is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation for all of the love and support received over the past two weeks. Your unconditional love for Mike and his family continues to carry them through this difficult time. The family requests all donations in honor of Mike be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made at: www.npwelch.com.

I was privileged to have Mike work with my lab children at Greathouse Elementary during his Senior year at Lee. His humor, gift of finding the best in all possible situations, and his zest for life remain with me. I have often thought of him and am glad to hear that he was able to use his creative gifts in NYC. So sorry to hear of OUR loss! No doubt he's pulling pranks with angels sming in the Mike way!
