Norma Gibson

Norma Jean (Sparks) Gibson, 64, died Tuesday January 18, 2011 at Fisher County Hospital. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday January 20, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Rotan with Wes Eastman officiating. Burial will follow at Belvieu Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation was Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 at the funeral home. Born February 5, 1946, in Rotan, Norma was a daughter of the late Laurence Aric and Mary Jane (Sutton) Sparks. Norma graduated from Rotan High School in 1964 and attended both Texas Tech and Tarleton State Universities. She married Hubert Lynn Gibson on September 4, 1965 in Rotan. Norma lived various towns through out Texas and moved to Kansas where she and Lynn lived in Salina and Emporia for twenty-four years. While in Kansas she volunteered at the hospital, worked for Manpower, a job placement agency, and was the in-service secretary for the Emporia School District. Norma and Lynn moved back to Rotan in 2000. She was an artist who participated in painting the murals around Rotan and Roby. She liked to sing and was very proud of all her family whom she loved very much. Norma took a lot of pride in the family farm and ranch. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Frank Cockrell Art Association, and the Church of Christ in Rotan. She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister (Jane Lafon Porter). Norma is survived by her husband Lynn Gibson of Rotan; one son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Rebecca Gibson of Midland; one daughter and son-in-law, Keri and Kevin Williams of Tomball, TX; one brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence Wayne and Byrde Sparks of Rotan; four grandchildren, Katie Colburn, Todd Gibson, Jr., Grant Williams and Grace Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews.
