The heavens have gained an Angel. Jan led by example. She was uncompromising in her defense of our environment and a wonderful friend and colleague. She brought honor to public service. Our family''s deepest sympathies extend to the Platt and Kaminis families.

Jan was a rare and great public servant. Tampa Bay (the area and the estuary) was very fortunate to benefit from her contributions. When I think of Jan the public servant I can't help but think of Fred Karl too. Two of the best! Tight lines.

The death of Janis Kaminis Platt has evoked profound sadness among Hillsborough citizens whose lives she touched. She mentored me to get personally involved in public service; and, my 'guiding star' in creating the SouthShore Roundtable think-tank that successfully lobbied for a Regional Library, HCC, etc., which have benefited all citizens south of the Alafia. Her openly unpolitical get-the-job-done approach earned the respect and admiration of all the citizenry of Hillsborough County. Jan, we will always hold you in our hearts, Requiescat in pace my dear friend

As an employee at the Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County, I am deeply saddened on the passing of such a WONDERFUL inspiration. Jan Platt was a true pioneer in the environmental world, and will be greatly missed. Jan was caring and thoughtful. She never made me feel "less than", but helped instill in me a pride to continue Mr. Stewart and Dr. Garrity's legacy to push for environmental stewardship for the agency.
To her family, thank you so much for sharing her with us. Her love for Tampa Bay gave each of us encouragement that if we believe and work hard enough, great strides can and will continue to be made.
Sincere condolences, prayers for comfort, and wishes for strength during your time of bereavement.

More than any other single person, Jan Platt influenced and mentored my career at Hillsborough County. From the first day I appeared before the County Commission as a new Manager in the County until she retired, her words of wisdom about the zoning process guided my decision making. I will forever be indebted to her. All of us who worked with her over the years understand that it was her love of the County and its citizens that influenced her actions and shaped her long career of service. Rest In Peace, Jan.
