Mercy Funeral System, Inc. Obituary

Aaron Joseph Scott, 44, of Winnie, Texas passed away on Saturday, May, 12, 2018 in Houston, Texas. The Memorial Celebration Service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Mercy Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Live Oak Memorial Park and Cemetery in Nederland, Texas.
Aaron Joseph Scott , also affectionately known as “Tweet” to many, was born July 7, 1973. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas, to Louis and Shirley Scott. He was the oldest of two sons and was raised in both Louisiana and later, Winnie, Texas. From a young age, he was known as being a helpful, kind and loving person, and there was little he would not do for his family; but those weren’t his only qualities. He was also very smart and convincing; for example, at the tender age of nine years old, he talked a store owner into letting him open a charge account so that he and his brother could get all the candy, chips and soda they wanted at any time! Of course, his mother had to close it shortly thereafter.  He put that intelligence to good use throughout his life. For example, throughout his school years he was very involved with the Speech and Drama Club. He even won many awards, medals and trophies.  He graduated from East Chambers High School in Winnie, Texas as Salutatorian and graduated from Lamar University, where he was regularly on the dean’s list, with a bachelor’s degree and became a successful Chemical Engineer. During his time at Lamar University, he had the privilege of serving as the President of the National Society of Black Engineers; but his desire to help people led him to begin studying medicine at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.  Aaron loved gourmet cooking, and it gave him immense pleasure to watch others enjoy his kitchen creations. When he wasn’t impressing people with his cooking, he was impressing them with his stylish dressing, because anyone who knew him, knew he loved fashion and clothing. He also loved to sing and do karaoke. His love for travel led him to live in Puerto Rico for several years, where he perfected his Spanish.  He passed away May 12, 2018, due to a heart attack, but he had been a fighter since the age of eleven, when he began his battle with juvenile diabetes – a battle he waged successfully for decades until complications caused his condition to deteriorate rapidly.  He is survived by his parents, Louis and Shirley, his brother, Eric, and his wife, Jessie, and a host of very special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. We will all miss him dearly but carry him in our hearts.

Aaron and I met at Lamar University. Both of us were engineering majors, members of NSBE, and student workers on campus in the Engineering Advisement office. Aaron was very smart and focused, helpful to others, and always well dressed.
