Dear grandfather of Stephen, Matthew, Jill, Alex, Abby, and Anna. Great-grandfather of 7. Dear brother of Lorri Welling, Patti Hofbauer, and the late Walter Cruse. Sergeant Alan A. Cruse
Al was born August 22, 1939 in Cincinnati, the third child born to Howard (a postal worker) and Frances (Moehringer) Cruse. He attended Roger Bacon High School and graduated in 1957. He also attended Xavier Evening College from 1957 to 1960 and majored in Business Administration.
From 1963 to February 1967, he worked for Willson Dairy on Reading Road as a Salesman. For the next few months, he worked as an Employment Counselor for Associated Placements. Then he worked as a salesman for the Independent Order of Foresters and as a truck driver for Mohawk Boneless Beef.
Al joined the Cincinnati Police Division on November 19, 1967 as a Police Recruit. He was promoted to Patrolman on February 25, 1968, issued Badge 519, and assigned to District 1 (310 Lincoln Park Drive). He was promoted to Police Specialist on March 24, 1974 and issued Badge PS-233. On January 5, 1975, Specialist Cruse transferred to District 5 (1012 Ludlow Avenue). He was promoted to Sergeant on October 29, 1978 and issued Badge S-105. One month later, he transferred to District 4 (4150 Reading Road). Sergeant Cruse also served in District 5, Police Communications Section, District 3 (3201 Warsaw Avenue), and District 1. He retired February 3, 1993 with 25¼ years of service and 34 letters of appreciation and/or commendation.
Early on, his favorite form of entertainment was exhibiting dogs at dog shows. He was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters and President of Buckeye Associated Club and Miami Valley Doberman Pincher Club.
After retiring he worked as a chauffeur, including for funeral homes.
