Alonzo Woods Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 20, 2018.
Sunday, September 16, 2018, God peacefully nudged his son Alonzo and told him it was time to return home.
Alonzo began his journey here on earth on November 21, 1985 in Takoma Park MD, The first born son of Anthony "Tony" Keith Woods of Silver Spring, MD and Regina Ann Cosley of Frederick, MD (Ray E. Cosley). Alonzo's grandmother, S. Ann Woods of Silver Spring, MD, whom he affectionately called "Nana-boo" also shared in his upbringing.

Alonzo was educated in the Montgomery County Public School system, graduating from Montgomery Blair High School in 2003, where he played basketball and football. He furthered his education at Coastal Christian Prep Academy in Norfolk, VA and Alleghany College of Maryland. Alonzo was an avid basketball player and played since the age of five with many teams, to include the Silver Spring Boys & Girls Club, Rosemary Hills Recreational Department. He was a member of the Potomac Valley Silver Spring Blue Devils AAU for many years; his 10U team, ranked 8th in the nation at the National Finals, and also played against Lebron James in Florida with his 12U team. He played adult basketball for NRAA in Montgomery County Maryland. Alonzo made an impact on every person he came in contact with and shared a strong bond with all of his family and friends. He always gave unconditional love, and was a blessing just by making his presence known. His smile, laugh, and corny jokes will live on forever in all of our hearts.

Alonzo was a very special man and he leaves to remember and cherish fond memories, his loving father Anthony "Tony" Woods and mother Regina Cosley (Ray), brothers Antonio and Antwain, his step-siblings, Shanta Telfer (Neil), Raven Cosley (Angel), and Christine Cosley. Paternal grandmother, S. Ann Woods "Nana-Boo", his paternal grandfather Melvin Davis, uncles Fred Haynes (Wandra), Maurice Haynes (Tonya), Timmy Haynes (Carolina), aunts Felicia Haynes, Aurie Haynes-Eke, godfather Robert Jones (Arlene), godsons Devin, Rashan and Nico Durham sons of eldest cousin David Durham and a host of additional, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousin's and adopted uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Fred and Esther Haynes, his beloved paternal great-grandfather, John "Tom" Woods and Gertrude Ingram-Parker and his godmother Jowava M. Harrison.
