Owens, Amon E. baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection, Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the age of 92.
Beloved husband for over 62 years of Mary Lou "Poozie" Owens (nee Yadon. Dear father of Nancy (Lee) Struckhoff, Jean (Keith) Boal, Steve Owens, Sheila (John) Fuszner, Kevin (Laurie) Owens, Mary Ann (Tom) Hollander, Elaine (Terry) Smith and Gayle (Kevin) Watkins. Grandfather of Meredith, Katy, Abigail, Molly, Alex, Shelley, Kelley, Tara, Sean, Rachael, Caleb, Kyle, Corey, Chloe, Emma, Lyndsey, Sydney, Connor, Lauren & Marissa. Great-Grandfather of sixteen. He was a brother to Burvon Owens, Wayne (Dayton) Owens, Ellavee Cabeen, Wanda Noble, and the late Calvin Owen, Flavol Owens, Hazel Reavis and Benton (Bob) Owens. He loved and was loved by his children and grandchildrens' spouses, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Amon spent his young life in the Missouri bootheel, helping on the farm and to raise his siblings, while attending school in a one room school house. He served in the Missouri CCC before joining the 8th Army Air Corps in 1943, where he served in the 357th Fighter Group. After his honorable discharge he became an officer on the Webster Groves Police Dept. where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant after many years which included stints as foot patrolman in Old Orchard (where he met his wife), juvenile officer and city/court clerk, until his retirement from the force in 1981. At this time he became the full time Webster City Court Clerk until 1996. During his time as a officer he took great pride in attending classes at Webster University where he received high grades in his classes, including Psychology.
A devoted convert to the Catholic faith, he was very involved in church activities, including membership in the Legion of Mary and Third Order of St. Francis. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. He was an active member of the parish prayer group.
As husband and father he far exceeded his duties, coming home from extra jobs to pitch in with the housework and childcare. His expertise in changing diapers and bottle feeding carried over to his grandchildren. The example he set in his lifetime is one that created a steady path to follow for his children and the generations that followed. His passing is softened only by the knowledge that he can now move and breathe without pain in the company of God and his loved ones that have passed before him.
