I will always remember BJ as the uncle that let me hang around with him on our infrequent family trips to Texas. I remember accompnaying him on his bread route, turkey hunting on the farm when I was stationed at Dyess, AFB and visiting him a couple of times after Mom moved to Elgin. In many ways I still emulate his off-hand way of answering questions and responding to unexpected events. BJ was a great man in his own way - nothing flashy, just a solid personality that knew what he believed...

Billy Jack Deal was my mother's brother who I remember growing up whose dry humor was a running joke in our family. His love for Martha, his wife, was the character quality which stood out the most to me as a boy when visiting. I'll always have the fond memory of him and Martha. When visiting my grandmother I have the memory of how Billy Jack would come by daily checking on his mother.
