Not sure what to say?

From what I have seen in the guest book, this is the Bernie Megrey that I went to grade school with. We were good friends and I remember going to his house a few times. He was just a few days older than me. Very sad to hear this, even at such a late date.

How sad to hear of the passing of Bernie, one of my favorite students and one with whom I always enjoyed working-- and playing!
We are all impoverished...

I just learnt about Bern’s unexpected last trip. I first met him almost 20 years ago in Seattle when preparing a sabbatical there. Along with several fisheries meetings, we always spent good time in addition to share smart ideas on his vision of computing and fisheries. I will miss him. My sincere sympathy to his wife and children. (Guy Fontenelle, Fisheries scientist, Agrocampus ouest, Rennes, France)

My name is Henry G. 'Skip' Lazauski. Bern and I worked together while members of the AFS computer user section for six years. Like all of those who knew him I feel that a light has gone out of my life, science and the universe.

I offer this poem as a tribute to Bern and the hope that his family and friends will find comfort in dealing with this loss.

Finding what was lost

From a Friend
I was a fisheries friend of Bern and met him once a year in a different country for most of the last 15 or so years at the Annual Science Meetings of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES). In the mid-1990’s he had greatly impressed me with the management of a group of papers relating to computerized mapping, then a relatively new field of work. Consequently the first time a vacancy occurred in our Editorial Team I asked him if I could put forward...

Dear Dr. Megrey,
I think I was so luck that I met you, one of world-class scientist in fisheries. Thank you for your contribution to fisheries science in Korea not only in USA. Everybody who know you will miss and remember you.
Farewell.

Dear Bernie:

This is to you, my old friend. I hope you are smiling at us all who are tearful at your passing, with a knowing sense of what is next. I learned of your passage today and I am tearful with memories of our times together. I remember you in our youth together and through our college days and beyond. I loved you then, and you, me. I am so glad that you found a life of love and family over the years.

We re connected some of the time and you seemed...

Bernie was my first Administrative Assistant at the Institute of Environmental Sciences in 1977-1978. He was a wonderful colleague and had a great deal of respect from all those who knew him at Miami University, especially our long-time secretary, Ruh McLeod. I remained in contact with him over the years to some extent, and was able to have what we called a mini-reunion in Seattle in the early 1990's. I'm sure he will be missed by his colleagues, friends, and family in Seattle, but he will...

Hi Bern,
Thank you so much Bern for your warm hearts and kind understanding while I was there, working with you. You were my first supervisor in my life when I was needed, for one and a-half years. Take a rest for the time being. You worked enough. See you later.
