Although this is quite late, I read with great sadness the news of Bertha's passing. She was a wonderful correspondent and her assistance with Cummins genealogy opened doors that otherwise would have remained closed to me. She ended her last email to me with a good humored challenge: "have I given you enough information to ponder for a while?" That was a couple of years ago and I'm still "pondering" leads I obtained from her. Please accept my sincerest condolences, and to Bertha, congratulations on an exemplary life well lived. Fair winds and following seas , cousin.

Greetings:
I simply wanted to express my sympathy. I didn't know Ms. Dresden, but I work with Mark. A good person leaves an inheritance to their children's children. Mark greets people with love and kindness. Something, that I believe comes from within. I respect Ms. Dresden's contribution to society. We are definitely better because she was here.
Kind Regards,
Barbara Kershaw

What a joy it was to visit with Bertha during meetings of our book club. Her full and varied life experiences often deepened our understanding of the readings, and when she opened her mouth, I always knew that I would learn. Our lives were enriched by her time in Athens, and we miss her already. I am thinking of your family, Jana.

Danielle and Jana,
Although feminists have fought to be called "women", the word "lady" still has meaning for me. Even through the very brief times I shared with your mom it was always clear that she was a "lady". I am thinking of her and you both tonight.

It was a pleasure and privilege to know Bertha. Although she treasured her memories of her wonderful life with Max, she never let them stop her from looking toward the future. In keeping with the spirit of her favorite color green, she was always growing and learning. Even the loss of vision could not rob her of her love of books and knowledge. She was a lesson in how to age with grace, and I know I am better for having known her. Please accept my condolences.
