Billy Koester Obituary

Billy L. Koester "Papa" CHARLOTTE - Billy L. Koester went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014. He was born June 4, 1926, in Tulsa, OK, and was raised in Travelers Rest, SC. Bill was preceded in death by his parents George Rudolph and Helen Ladd Koester and brother, George Koester. He served in both the US Army and US Air Force during WWII and the Korean conflict. The majority of his business career was spent in sales-specifically the auto after-market and real estate. He attended First Baptist Church in Charlotte for 65 years. Bill was a very generous man and would do anything to help others. In his retirement Billy loved to explore the various parks in the area or you would find him in his rocking chair drinking Pepsi and eating peanut butter crackers & candy on his front porch! Bill is survived by his wife Betty Ellington Koester of 65 years, two sisters & two brothers, daughter Linda K. Atwell, son David & wife Kathi, son Tom & wife Cecilia, 7 grandchildren: Ashley A. Womack (Joe) & Brian Atwell, Jena & Luci Koester, and Zach, Meghan & Emily Koester, and many nieces & nephews and grand-nieces & grand-nephews. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to the loving and caring staff at Carillon Assisted Living of Indian Trail, especially the C-Unit staff. In lieu of flowers please send Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr, Charlotte, NC 28215. Linda, Larry and I are so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. We read the obituary and decided Brian is a lot like his grandfather. Brian has been so helpful to us, and we truly appreciate all he has done. We will pray for you and your family during this sad time.

Dear Family,
We consider ourselves very blessed to have lived beside your dad for the past 14 years. We miss his great sense of humor, and seeing him sitting on his front porch! He was a good and decent man. How appropriate that Jesus would bring him home on Easter Sunday! Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
With deepest sympathy
