It is with great sadness within NICB to announce the death of our Vice President, Brian Smidt. Brian began his NICB career in 1990 as a programmer, was later assigned to the membership team and served as the IT manager prior to becoming Vice President of Data Analytics. With over 30 years of experience with NICB, Brian was a respected leader and trusted by his contemporaries.

Throughout his career, Brian was always outgoing and offered a sense of humor when needed. As a leader, he had the ability to make every person feel comfortable when needed and would use laughter as a common bond among colleagues. Brian's personality gravitated people towards him and made him the life of the room.

Brian's sincere personality also made him a trusted mentor to countless of his co-workers over his career at NICB. Brian was always willing to listen when needed and provided sound advice whether personally or professionally to anyone in need. He regularly would ask about employee's children or family members well-being and was always supportive to anything he could do to help. Brian also loved to hear about people's vacations and trips and was always in support of having a positive work/home balance within NICB. Brian would enjoy discussing vacations, cruises or other places he had been throughout his life, and that excitement will be remembered by all of us.

Brian was a great leader who will be missed by all of us at NICB. Within Data Analytics, he was our boss first, but also our trusted beloved friend. Brian will be greatly missed on many levels.

Not sure what to say?

Brian will be missed! From our first meeting, I learned quickly he was a real asset to the NICB. Intelligent, knowledgeable, well spoken and hilarious. I have many fond memories of laughing with him. In fact, I'm smiling as I write this... All who knew Brian will truly miss him!!! I'm grateful to have wonderful memories with Brian.

Brian was a wonderful person and always made me laugh.

Brian will be remembered by his sense of humor and his concern for others. He loved a good joke and a quick retort more than anyone. He always was the first to laugh and put a room at ease. Brian made everyone feel comfortable and made sure to include everyone. I will miss his pop culture references and going out to lunch with him. We traveled a lot together and I appreciated that he packed the largest suitcase available even for just a night or two. He was always excited to explore...

I'll always remember Brian as the great person he was. He always had a kind word and had a great sense of humor.
