Falgout Funeral Homes - Raceland Obituary

Carl J. Toups, a resident of Luling, died peacefully at 8:15 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Ochsner-St. Charles Parish Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Carl was born on April 27, 1923. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 155 Holy Family Lane at Lakewood Dr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Carl at 11:00 am with burial to follow in St. Charles Cemetery. He is survived by three daughters, Lydia McCombs (Michael), Gretchen McDonald (Bruce), Kayla Danos (Weldon) and two sons, Byron Toups (Terrilyn) and Troy Toups, grandchildren, Gerard Danos, Brittany Danos Rhodus, Caitlyn McDonald Sailor, Hunter McDonald, Aundrea Toups Shields, Michael McCombs and five great grandchildren, Beau, Benjamin, Owen, Peyton and Emmett. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Peyregne Toups, parents, Sylvester and Lydia Legendre Toups, four brothers, Dave, Blaise, Lynn and Donald, four sisters, Lena Rau, Yvonne Uzee, Evelyn Comeaux and Lucille Rhodes. Carl served his country proudly for two years in the United States Army during World War II. After graduating from Louisiana State University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering, he worked for the Louisiana Soil Conservation Department in the River Parishes. He was then employed by American Cyanamid Chemical Company, as an engineer and chief draftsman, where he retired after 40 years of service. Carl was born in Raceland, Louisiana and resided in St. Charles Parish for 65 years. He was very much involved in his community. Carl designed many of the homes in Mimosa Park and Willowdale Country Club. He was one of the founding members of Mimosa Swim and Racquet Club and designed its facilities. He also served on the design committee for the current St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling, Louisiana. After retirement, he donated his time to Destrehan Plantation and loved every minute of it. Our Dad truly loved New Orleans, Grand Isle, Mardi Gras, LSU Football Hahnville High School Football and the New Orleans Saints. He was always happy to take his children, their cousins and friends to experience the many activities our city and state has to offer. Dad will be fondly remembered and missed by many relatives and friends. Carl's family would like to extent a special thank you to the employees of Ashton Manor where he resided for the past five years. He certainly loved each and everyone of the employees (all of his "Sweet Peas"). Carl's family requests that donations be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 155 Holy Family Lane, Luling, Louisiana 70070 in memory of Carl. Falgout Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Not sure what to say?

Troy, Paul and I and my mom wish to extend to you our deepest and heartfelt sympathies. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I pray that God will provide the family with peace and grace.

Sending prayers and condolences to the entire Toups family. I have such fond memories of your father/grandfather. He was always kind and made everyone feel welcome...such a gentle soul. May he rest in peace with Our Father in heaven.

Lydia, Gretchen and Kayla, i am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was a kind man and always had something nice to say. I have fond memories of him rolling his wheelchair backwards when I visited my dad (Harold Montz) at Ashton Manor. I will keep y'all in my prayers.

I will always remember your kindness! A wonderful soul is in God's hands now! May your family rejoice in the memory of a life well lived and enjoy God's peace and healing.

My most sincere condolences go out to the entire Toups family on the loss of Mr. Carl. I will always remember him riding his lawnmower well into his 80's and his unending hospitality for St. Patrick's Day parades at Mike's office. May your good memories carry you through this time of grief.

It was a pleasure being able to meet a happy, wonderful, and intelligent person. I loved hearing stories about your family and The Smile Inn. But the best thing was being one of your "Sweet Pea's!"

Sincere condolences to the Toups family for the loss of your beloved father and grandfather. May his legacy of love for family and friends live on through each of you. May the God of all comfort sustain each of you during your time of grief.

I'm going to miss you so much Pawpaw! Rest peacefully, we love you!!
