My condolences for Caterina's passing. I was an undergraduate and then graduate student at UC Berkeley at the Italian Department from 1977 to 1985 and really came to appreciate her generosity, wit and nurturing protectiveness towards us students. As a teaching assistant for many years, I learned a lot about language teaching from her insights and advice.
