The Rev. Charles Henry Holmes Jr., 95, of Lincolnton, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at his residence.
Charles was born May 19, 1925, in Iva, S.C., to the late Charles Henry Holmes Sr. and Lelia Ashworth Holmes. He served our country during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart. Mr. Holmes retired from Duke Energy and went on to become the minister of Revealed Word Tabernacle Church.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannette Holmes; son, Francis Jerrell Holmes; eight sisters; and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Joy Yeargin Holmes; children, Adam Cole (Tiffany) Holmes of Stanley, Phillip Paul (Tiffany) Holmes, Anna Marie Holmes, Diane Booth, Cheryl (David) Cathey, Paulette (Paul) Austin, Karen (Ashley) Brumley, all of Lincolnton, Fredda Dixon of Anderson, S.C., and Janet (Jim) Burrell of Hiawassee, Ga.; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, May 15, at Revealed Word Tabernacle Church with the Rev. Kenan Williams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service in the church. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to Revealed Word Tabernacle Church, 2834 Hampton Rd., Lincolnton, NC 28092.
