WOODS, Charles Thomas, went home to his Creator, December 26, 2012, surrounded by family, friends, and a spirited chorus of love. He was 62. Nathan, Seth, and Zachary, along with their mother, Bonnie Beaune, were by their father's side as he passed peacefully from this world. Born September 14, 1950 to Thomas and Winifred Woods (deceased) of Richmond, Virginia. Charlie Woods possessed an enthusiasm for life that will live on in all those who love him. In addition to his sons, Charlie is survived by his brother, Robert Woods, of Florida; and a daughter-in-law, Caitlin Woods (Nathan), of California. Charlie's presence will be dearly missed by countless friends, neighbors, and fellow parishioners. For nearly 30 years, Charlie enjoyed music, worship, and friendship as an active member of The Church of The Creator in Mechanicsville. Over stew pots, in Richmond, fly fishing at Shrine Mont retreat, and meals on his back porch, Charlie always has shared stories and laughter with hundreds of friends. His interests were many, making it natural for Charlie to find common ground and conversation with everyone he met. Charlie loved music, playing the harmonica, grilling, and collecting antiques. His appreciation for antiques sparked his passion for furniture restoration, which led him to found Woods Refinishing & Restoration in 1979. For 33 years, Charlie has lovingly crafted and restored wood furniture from his Shockoe Bottom workshop. He passed his love of fine craftsmanship and his knowledge to his middle son, Seth, who will continue to run the operation. A memorial celebration will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 29 at The Church of the Creator in Mechanicsville. The family will receive visitors at home, 8163 Sawyer Lane, Mechanicsville, Va. immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shrine Mont Camp Scholarship Fund, (The Diocese of Virginia, Attn: Shrine Mont Camps, 110 W. Franklin St. Richmond, Va. 23220)

Not sure what to say?

We just found out today when Seth called us about a piece of furniture that Charlie was working on. We read the paper every day but we were out of town at Christmas and we were not aware. We are absolutely devastated to hear as we both had a longstanding relationship with Charlie. Carl knew Charlie for years with his mother, Jane Outen. Ken was introduced to Charlie through Bill Mann. We LOVED Charlie and he did so many nice things for us. The fruits of his craft are with us in the many...

We are very saddened by the sudden loss of Bobby's brother. Family is so important.

I am so sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. He was a wonderful neighbor and friend. I know he will be singing with the multitude of angels...just need to listen for him. Rest in Peace, Charlie, until we meet again!

I was saddened to hear of Charlie's passing. I will remember him not only from my early years at Creator, but also for how welcoming he was when I came back with my kids and the compassion he shared when he heard of my mom's passing. His passing is a true loss. Thoughts with you all!

Nathan, Seth, Zach, and Bonnie, I was saddened to hear the news about Charlie. Many of my fondest memories of Creator were of your family, and I will always remember Charlie as such a warm and friendly soul. I hadn't seen him in a couple of years, but have never forgotten his smile. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

A hole has been ripped in my life with your absence, Charlie. The joking around, sharing resources and ease, an absolute pure ease, of our day-to-day worklife gave me a home; a place where I was safe and happy. Thank you for being so generous and delightful. How am I ever going to interrupt your naps now?!!

I am just so sorry to hear of his passing. Definitely one of the very good ones on this Earth. He and his many talents will be missed.

Lots of great memories include you from the days living at the Keck Farm. There were so many laughs and happy times. I am thankful you came to the Kentucky Derby party this year where we all got to be together again. Will miss you in this world!

I heard the news from our dear friend Anne Lynne and I am stunned. I will never forget your kindness, love for life and your devotion and loyalty to your boys, family and friends. I don't understand why two beautiful and gentle souls left us so soon. I want to believe that you are now with Mario playing music together and watching over us.
