Cheri was born on February 27, 1956 and passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. Cheri was a resident of Georgia at the time of passing. Cheri graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1974 with Highest Honors. In lieu of flowers, please donate children's books to your favorite library or make memorial donations in Cheri's name to Regency Hospice, 350 S. Main Street, Hiawassee, GA 30546.

My deepest condolences to the McElroy family. I was one of the students at Jewett in the early 2000s. I'd hated reading for a long time, but when I started getting into it in middle school, Ms. McElroy was there to make suggestions and talk with me about books. She was truly instrumental in setting me on the path towards getting a degree in literature, working in higher-ed, and becoming a lifelong bookworm. That's how I'll always remember her.
