BOLING, Clyde Warren

Clyde Warren Boling passed away on January 8, 2015 at age of 78. He was born to Clint and Bitha Boling in Holland, Texas on December 29, 1936.

Clyde was a graduate of McCallum High School and honorably served in the U.S. Army followed by a successful career at TRACOR, APC Industries and 3M where he was awarded several patents. He was a passionate runner and an original member of the Austin Runner's Club. Known as a fierce competitor, he completed ten marathons and countless other races.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Marshall Boling, Olive Fariss and Lillie Mae Cummings. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Lana (Becker) Boling; daughter and son-in-law Carla and Stephen Knippa; sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Julie Boling and Kris and Christy Boling; grandchildren, Clay and Amber Knippa, Kelli Knippa and Haley Boling; brother-in-law/best friend and sister-in-law Andrew and Carolyn Becker and numerous other family and friends.

The family will greet guests at a visitation to be held from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. Funeral services to celebrate Clyde's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1500 West Anderson Lane in Austin, Texas. Committal services will follow at 3:30 pm at Ridgeway Cemetery, 153 Ridgeway Cemetery Road in Paige, Texas. Serving as pallbearers are: Eric Boling, Kris Boling, Stephen Knippa, Clay Knippa, Charles Fariss, Gary Becker, Chris Hartenstein and Wayne Klimovitz. Honorary pallbearers are the McCallum High School class of 1956.

Clyde was a devoted family man, a man of faith and a dependable friend. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the National Stroke Association or Redeemer Lutheran Church.

We miss this wonderful man and friend! But he left to his family a legacy of Christian love and many loving memories. We are honored to have known him for many, many years (Mary Ann since 1952 at Baker Jr. High and then all through high school at McCallum). We will remember him for his tenacity, determination, giving heart and love for his family, friends and his Lord.

Lana, Kris and family:
I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Clyde. Please accept my deepest sympathies. Clyde was a kind and considerate man. I remember his passion for running and our conversations about the Austin running scene, as well as our discussions about work. I met him when we both worked at APC Industries in the very early 1980s. My favorite memory was a time I'd seen him after he ran the 3M Half Marathon in the mid 1990s. I asked him if there had been sufficient water and energy drink on the course. He replied, "Oh, for that? Oh, I don't need to take water on li'l runs like that, so I don't know." What a guy!

I had the honor of meeting Clyde several years ago when he came to work at 3M Austin Center to work in our Technical Service Group. I always enjoyed conversations with Clyde concerning his family and his favorite restoration project in his garage. It just so happens that his daughter was my oldest daughters cross country coach at Leander High School in the early 90's. Clyde was a good friend and excellent co-worker. My thoughts and prayers are with Lana and family at this time of sorrow.
