David E. Beene, Jr. March 1, 1948 - February 25, 2013 LEDYARD - David E. Beene, Jr., 64, of 422 Colonel Ledyard Highway, Ledyard died at his residence on Monday morning, surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with bladder cancer. He was born March 1, 1948 in Dinuba, CA the son of Ruby Dupree Beene and David E. Beene, Sr. He spent his formative years growing up in his beloved state of Oklahoma.He married Barbara Lindsey Beene in Noank, on September 12, 1981. Mr. Beene worked for the United States Civil Service as a Fire Safety Research Specialist for the United States Coast Guard for 35 years. He is a US Army veteran having served in South Korea during the Vietnam Era. In addition to his wife Barbara he is survived by his son; David L. Beene of Ledyard and a daughter; Cynthia L. Beene also of Ledyard. David was an active man who enjoyed participating in many different activities, including tennis, golf, and volleyball. After retiring, he had a small construction company with one of his closest friends. He took great pride in the many things that he built. He also was a voracious reader, spending many enjoyable hours at the Ledyard Library. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1650 Rt. 12, Gales Ferry, CT 06335. Burial will follow in Avery Stoddard Cemetery.
