Ashworth, Donald Charles age 79, of Fergus Falls died Saturday, October 18, 2008, at Lake Region Hospital surrounded by his adoring family. He was born October 8, 1929, in Minneapolis to Harold and Betty (Mober) Ashworth. Don lived a full life with one true love, his wife and family. He had many interests with road construction being one. Don was involved in the road construction industry for over 60 years. His career began with his father at Ashworth/Hawkinson in 1944 and ended as recent president/ owner of Mark Sand & Gravel, his last and longest company affiliation. He was a past executive board member of the Minnesota Asphalt Pavement Association. He was a Korean War veteran. Hockey was another of Don's passions. As a player, coach and avid spectator, he watched his son, daughters and grandsons play the game without fail. He was instrumental in forming the Fergus Falls Youth Hockey Association in 1963. He supported and cheered all activities his children and grandchildren were involved with from softball, swim meets, hockey, baseball and football to choir, band and theater. He was an ever present husband, father and grandfather. He also closely followed Minnesota college and professional sports teams. His love of life and humor will be sadly missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 55 years and the love of his life, Patricia Ann (Johnson) Ashworth; five children, Donald (Teresa) of Fergus Falls, Pamela of Champlin, Sandra (Wade Carlson) of Champlin, Leslie (George Mrazek) of LaGrange, IL and Amie (Steve Meier) of Chicago, IL; nine grandchildren, Braden and Taylor Ashworth, Mitchell, Nathan, Jack and Dayna Carlson, Elle, Matthew and Drew Mrazek; sister-in-law, Patricia E. Ashworth. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James E. Ashworth. Donations in Don's memory may be made to First Lutheran Church Choir or the Fergus Falls Hockey Association.
