LOMBARDO, Donald J.
Donald J. Lombardo, 62, of East Hartford, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday (March 25, 2012) at his home with his caring family by his side. Born in Hartford on May 22, 1949, a son of the late Santo and Jeanne (Moretti) Lombardo, he had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. Raised in a farm family, Donald developed a strong work ethic as a young man. He was the president and operator of Colonial Paving of East Hartford for over 35 years and also Wishing Rock Farm in West Suffield for the past twelve years. Donald loved the people he worked with, the clients he worked for, and the friends he made along the way. He found pleasure in taking time to socialize at local establishments, tell jokes and talk history or politics. He loved kids, his land, his horses and dogs, his toys and his equipment. He will be remembered most by those who knew him for his drive, selflessness, fairness, sense of humor, and wisdom. Donald is survived by his son, Santo "Sam" Lombardo and his wife, Kristen, of West Suffield; one adored grandson, Nicholas J. Lombardo of West Suffield; three brothers, Peter Lombardo and his wife, Rosemary, of Glastonbury, Santo "Sam" Lombardo and his wife, Nancy, of Glastonbury, Anthony "Tony" Lombardo of East Hartford; and his favorite sister, Adele "Pinkie" Greene and her husband, Donald, of East Hartford. He also leaves the love of his life, Barbara J. Smith of East Hartford with whom he made his home, and her two children, Kelli Menard of West Suffield and Sydney Menard of East Hartford; a sister-in-law, Diane S. Lombardo of Manchester; several special people including cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by a brother, Robert C. Lombardo and a sister-in-law, Hillery G. Lombardo both of East Hartford.
Funeral services will be Friday (March 30) at 10 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, (Section P), Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Thursday (March 29) from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Donald's name may be made for his Little Nickster and sent to the Nicholas J. I can't believe you're gone!! We spent countless years together and had some crazy times - Harbor Park, Johnny B's, late night rides on the harley, taking Sammy to Coventry Lake when he was just a baby!! I think the last time we saw each other was at JG's in East Granby several years ago. No one was ever the kind of friend you were to me!! I will love you always and will be forever grateful for your presence in my life!! Much love, Sue

Donald, we've had our differences but in the end you were a huge reason so many people got to live their dreams with their horses. I was a happy boarder at WRF with my 2 horses and I was hard to satisfy when it came to their care but you did it. You've joined my beloved Stormy on the other side and I believe you'll watch over him there as you did for me here. Greener pastures for you to oversee now my friend. You will be missed.

Sam and family,
Your dad was father to so many. He loved our barn-girls with all his heart, and for that we are eternally greatful and honored to have known him. He will forever be loved and never forgotten.
