Donna Troutman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 14, 2018.
Donna Rae Murray Troutman died on November 13, 2018 of natural causes. She was surrounded by friends and family in her final days at her daughter Susan and son-in-law Pat Riley's home in Portland, Oregon.

Donna was born in St. Helens, Oregon to Maurice Morrel Murray and Margaret Hazel Evoy on May 26, 1935. Brother, Thomas Walter Murray, joined her in 1945. She had vivid childhood memories of life near the Columbia River during World War II, visiting her aunt's cabin in Cannon Beach, piano lessons, and being best buddies with her grandmother, Vera White.

Following papermill work, the family moved to Springfield, Oregon. Donna graduated from Springfield High School and married Eldon Chase. They had two daughters, Margery Sue and Jeanne Ann. In 1960, she married Nathaniel "Than" Troutman. They moved to Snowflake, Arizona where daughter, Susan Gay, was born.

While raising her children, she entered the workforce in mid-life. For seventeen years, she worked as an executive secretary for Louisiana-Pacific Corp. when it was headquartered in Portland, Oregon. Her professional demeanor, shorthand skills, and classy looks served her well. Here she made many dear friends.

Life brought many joys to Donna including her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memories of perfectly made beds, well-ironed clothes, and beautiful handwriting along with her love of road trips, card games, coffee, and laughter will always bring smiles to her family. All are blessed to have known her kindness and unwavering love.

She is survived by her brother; Thomas Murray (Karen) of Newberg, daughters; Margery Crawford (Steve) of Prineville, Jeanne Troxel (Dwayne) of Mt. Hood-Parkdale, Susan Riley (Pat) of Portland; grandchildren, Jessica Appelo (Devin) of Palm Desert, California, Margaret Goshorn (John) of Oregon City, Mara Troxel of Hillsboro, Lydia Troxel of Mt. Hood-Parkdale, and step-grandchildren Mark Troxel of Missoula, Montana, Sara Crawford of Grants Pass, and Caitlin Shearer (Jeremy) of Salem; great-grandsons Ethan Goshorn and Will Goshorn of Oregon City, and extended family. Donna was predeceased by her parents, husband Than, granddaughter Stephanie Richardson, and grandson Andrew Riley.

A private burial will occur on Friday, December 7, 2018. Donna would be pleased if remembrances were made as gifts to anyone "down on their luck".

Donna exemplified Love, Compassion and Generosity throughout her life and leaves behind living proof in her children and grandchildren. She is sorely missed by her brother Tom who idolized these characteristics as well as her great sense of humor. Rest in Christ, sweet Sis.

A dear friend since 1972, Donna was an example of what a perfect friend actually is. She supported me in all I did -- no matter what (in case you're wondering, I never committed a felony, or a misdemeanor, but I think she would have stood by me even then). We played pinochle and Boggle until odd hours, car pooled together, picked blackberries together. We suffered through divorces and deaths of dear ones together and as long as I have life I'll feel the huge emptiness left with her passing. I'll always be grateful for having her in my life for a time and look forward to being in her company before long. She raised some magnificent girls and I don't have words for how sorry I am that they must carry on without her. I send my love to them all. Lois Carlyine Ritter
