Born December 4, 1954 in Murray, KY., he was employed by J. Jerod Company in Benton, KY in maintenance. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his mother, Phyllis (Smith) Garland of Benton, KY., his wife, Cathy (Haley) Garland of Benton, KY., one daughter, Ami Freeman of Benton, KY., step-daughter Tammy Hayes, Paducah, KY., one son, Jarod Garland of Benton, KY., and step-son Tim Mathis of Mayfield, KY., one sister, Pam Loveless of Benton, KY. Five grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby J. Garland. Arrangements are being handled by Collier Funeral Home, P.O. Box 492, Benton, KY. Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Benton, KY. Dr. Gary Boggess will officiate. Interment will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Benton, KY. Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the Collier Funeral Home in Benton, KY. The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Paducah Lions Club Telethon of Stars, c/o Independence Bank, P.O. Box 966, Paducah, KY 42002.
