Doris Bokemper

Doris M Bokemper, 82, left this earth for Heaven, on January 7, 2018. She was diagnosed with Dementia/Alzhiemers and was currently living at the Legacy Arbors Memory Care in Lincoln, NE. Doris was born October 28, 1935 in Wakefield, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, Verner and Esther Fischer, husband, Duane, sister, Ruth Hammel, and daughter, Sally L. Hakel. Doris is survived by her son, Richard (Theresa) Bokemper of Lincoln, NE, her daughter, Susan (Joe) Schaffer of Lincoln, son-in-law, Jim Hakel of Lincoln, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.


In 1954, Doris met the love of her life, Duane, in Wakefield when she was the city girl, and he was the farm boy. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage. In 1966, Duane and Doris sold their family farm and moved to Lincoln where they would raise their three children. Doris worked several jobs over the years, including substitute teaching, daycare, and working at Crowls Kitchen and Design before retiring. She also worked for Tabitha helping with the elderly, delivering food, helping with errands, and house cleaning. Doris was a 66 year member of the Wakefield American Auxiliary, and spent many years along-side her husband going to Legion conventions and events. She enjoyed sewing, spending time with her grandkids, was an avid reader, and could make a 3 course meal out of her cupboard at a moment's notice. She loved to cook and garden, going for walks, and spending time at their family cabin. In their last years together Doris and Duane went on many bus trips to see the sites around the country.


A Celebration of Life Ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, 1551 S. 70th, Lincoln, NE, with a luncheon to follow. Donations in memory of Doris can be made to the Alzhiemers Association or Cancer Society. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
