Douglas “Rocky” Franklin, 62, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018 after a long illness. Born in Hampton, he was a lifelong Peninsula resident where he played in the band, “For Play” and also had performed solo at Anne Marie’s Pub in Newport News. He loved tinkering with objects and could fix almost anything, one way or another. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge #315 in Newport News.
Survivors include his wife, Barbie Franklin; his sister, Nancy Moses of Ocala, FL; his niece, Patty Kennedy of Texas; his nephew, Lee Prevette and wife, Kim and their son, Comie, Jr. of Gloucester; a special great-nephew, Jacob Stephens; step-children, Alexis and Ian Sheppard, and Toni Nash; and two grandchildren, Diamond Culp and Jodi Williams.
The family will receive friends from 2-6pm, Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 119 Chichester Avenue, Hampton.

Dear Barbie and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I met Rocky when I was 10, my grandmother would take me over to his house to visit his mother. I had always wondered what had happened to him and we crossed paths again in 2000. Since I didn't know but two Rocky's we narrowed it down when I said Katherine Khulman, tv evangelist his eyes lit up because his mother watched the show every evening.
