DOYLE BOWERS Obituary

DOYLE GLENN BOWERS, SR., 76, was called home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2010. All who knew him know that he always set aside time each day to spend in prayer with the Lord Jesus Christ. During this time of prayer, he was called home to heaven. His family can only rejoice that this was when God chose to take him.Glenn leaves his wife of 55 years, Patsy Ann, his children; Doyle and Cheryl Bowers; Naomi and Paul LaBonte'; Joanna Bowers; Stephen and Kathy Bowers; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers; and many close friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Dorinda Bowers-Beasley and his grandson, Adam Caleb Bowers.Glenn was born on March 22, 1936, to Eugene and Vessie Mae Bowers. He was born and raised in Nacogdoches, Texas, but spent most of his life in Houston, Texas. Approximately three years ago, he moved back to Nacogdoches to spend time farming, playing bluegrass gospel music with his brothers, and supporting his childhood church, Saints Rest Baptist.Glenn graduated from Woden High School, joined the army in 1952, served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1955. He returned to Nacogdoches, met and married the love of his life, Patsy Ann Murphy and attended Stephen F. Austin University for several years. He initially went to work for Reed Tool Company and then moved to Houston, Texas. He moved around with his family through Texas, Oklahoma and Puerto Rico due to work and then moved back to Houston in 1972. In 1979, he established his own fabrication and equipment design company, Bowers Equipment Company, which is now run by his son. He was a metallurgical specialist, an excellent engineer, and a wonderful businessman. The passion of Glenn's life was to help others know Jesus Christ and to help them grow their relationship with the Lord. He pastored Community Baptist Church in Humble, Texas for 35 years and spent his life epitomizing Christ's directive to become fishers of men.Funeral services will be held at Cason, Monk Funeral Home, 5400 North Street, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. Interment will be at Saints Rest Cemetery immediately following the services. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m.Condolences may be offered at www.casonmonk-metcalf.com

I am saddened and shocked after hearing, through my Aunt Pat, of the death of Glenn. After reading his obituary in The Daily Sentinel, I rejoice because I know of no better place for Glenn to go to be with Jesus than when having his devotionals. What a way to go! God bless you, Pat, and the children as you mourn. Our Lord will surely comfort you. Love, Joyce Phillips Tyrrell
