Private family graveside service for Earl Preston Cook Jr., 78, of Moulton will be today, July 19, 2011, at Hartselle City Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Redmond officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Cook, who died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at his home, was born June 17, 1933, in Nashville, Tenn., to Earl Preston Cook Sr. and Kathryn Belcher Booth Cook. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hartselle. He owned and operated Earl Cook Trucking.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Cook; two sons, Stan Cook and his wife, Sharon, of Enterprise and Van Cook of Trinity; and four grandchildren, Tyler Cook of Moulton and Nicklaus Cook, Preston Cook and Zachery Cook, all of Enterprise.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Gideons International.

I was acquainted with Mr. Cook for the last 6 or 7 years at the ballfield, while umpiring his grandson's games. Mr. Cook was one of my favorite people I've ever met up there and always will be at the top of my list. You always made sure to stop and talk to Mr. Cook after every game because he was such a joy to be around.
A few years ago, I remember one game I was frustrated afterwards and Mr. Cook cheered me up with some encouraging words. He always had the right persepctive and helped...

I'll always remember you jawing and joking in my ears while I would be behind the plate calling a game. No matter what you said, I always appreciated the way you kept it a GAME and made sure I knew that you did instead of taking it way too seriously like most people do these days.
You'll definitely be missed, Earl, especially by your family. I know that for sure.

Mr. Cook will be greatly missed...a candle light service will be Friday @ 7 on the 13/14 ballfield in Hartselle for all that would like to come..Pawpaw Cook (as know by many) was greatly loved & this is to honor his life....Love & sympathy to Big T & rest of the family....
