Edward Fenlon Edward H. Fenlon, 106, of Petoskey, Michigan, died peacefully in Long Beach on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the home of his son where he had resided for the past 5 years. He was born October 7, 1903 in St. Ignace, Michigan to James Fenlon and Anna (nee McLaughlin) Fenlon and grew up in nearby Hessel. He received his Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1927. He served the Michigan State Legislature, representing Mackinac and Emmet counties from 1933-1939. In 1935, he authored the bill that led to the creation of the Mackinac Bridge Authority. He married Elizabeth Jane Weckbaugh of Saginaw, Michigan in 1939 and returned to serve as prosecuting attorney in St. Ignace until 1945. In 1951, he was appointed circuit court judge, a position he held until retirement in 1974. He served North Central Michigan College (NCMC) on the Founder's Steering Committee leading to the creation of NCMC in Petoskey. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Jane, in 2001. He leaves his son, Dr. Michael (Carol Sue) Fenlon of Long Beach, CA; two granddaughters, Shauna Dok (Stephen) and Kathleen Vitakis (Alexander); and seven great-grandchildren, Justin, Quentin, Eden and Christian Vitakis and Spencer, Grady and Charles Dok. A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Long Beach, California. Edward's family suggests that memorial gifts in his honor be directed to the North Central Michigan College Foundation at 1515 Howard St., Petoskey, Michigan 49770.
