Edward James Swint

Edward James Swint, age 59, of Canton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 28, 2009. He was born on April 29, 1950 in Canton. Edward was a 1969 graduate of McKinley High School. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, where he was stationed in Germany. He was employed with U.S. Steel for 15 years and Republic Steel for one year and retired from Smith Nursing Home in 2003. Edward was a member of Zion's Temple Church of God in Massillon. He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, playing cards and playing chess. Edward also enjoyed basketball and football and was an avid fan of the New England Patriots. He was preceded in death by his father, James Swint; and sister, Lenora Lucius. Edward is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Veronica Swint; two daughters, Lorna Simmons and Ashley DeGraffinreed, both of Canton; grandson, Shaquille Simmons; step-son, Cedric Simmons of Canton; mother, Gloria Swint; four brothers, Eugene Swint of Charlotte, NC, Alexander Swint, Timothy Swint and Jonathan (Tammi) Swint, all of Canton; two sisters, Jewel Swint of Canton and Zipporah (Sam) Robinson of Perry Township; sister-in-law, Roberta Kelly; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Dr. Kahn and the staffs at Aultman Hospital and at Summits Trace for all their loving care and kindness. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 12pm at Sherrick Road Church of God (1121 Sherrick Rd. S.E., Canton, OH 44707) with Pastor George Lancaster and Pastor Angela Williams co-officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 6-8pm in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 11am-12pm in the church.
