Not sure what to say?

Mrs. Langan taught English at North Scranton Jr. HS, where I first met her. Later she moved with our class to Central HS, where I had the good fortune to write a small play for the graduating class. Her English class was lively. Some days she would make dramatic entrances - she clearly was someone who cared about her students. My favorite line that I remember from 59 year ago: "Emily Dickinson is my favorite poet because her poems are so short." She was a blessed spirit.

Ellen was a force of nature! With her Southern drawl and sparkling wit, she could cajole her students to perform at their very best and--if in competition--usually win. How fortunate the young people of Scranton, her adopted hometown, have been these many years. I first met her in 1959, when she judged the Freshman Acting Contest at Marywood. Other productions included The Matchmaker (with Jason Miller playing a memorable Horace Vandergelder) and Bells Are Ringing at the University of...

Mrs. Langan was my first call when I began my speech and debate program in 2003. I stood out in an empty school hallway and asked, "What is forensics?". The rest is history. On behalf my former, current, and future students... I am so grateful for her dedication to the forensics community. Her immeasurable legacy lives on in the lives of so many. Praying for peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Jim and family. My condolences on the loss of your Mother/Ellen.She, your Dad and your entire family are shining examples of the ideal"living for others". You all, and your Mother particularly, shared her enormous talent with her students willingly and cheerfully. She, and your family have changed the lives of a countless number young people in a positive way. What a legacy!
Heaven is now the beneficiary of her unique talent and wry humor.
May she rest in peace
