Elizabeth Jean Downie January 21, 1922 -September 25, 2011 Elizabeth Jean Downie, 89, of Centre Hall, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at the Wynwood House in Centre Hall. She was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Swissvale, a daughter of the late Frank Lewis and Willa Phillips Snyder. On March 21, 1946, in Tucson, Ariz., she married Robert C. Downie, who preceded her in death March 30, 2006. Elizabeth graduated from Swissvale High School in 1940 and went on to attend the University of Pittsburgh. She worked as a model and a secretary in her early years. Mrs. Downie enjoyed sewing, embroidering and cross stitching. She loved animals, especially cats. Surviving her are two sons Robert C. Downie Jr. (Barbara). of Callery, and Frank C. Downie (Kathianne), of Centre Hall; two grandsons, Michael and John Downie, both of Centre Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and John Snyder. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Keith Maurer officiating. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery at Tusseyville. Contributions in her memory may be made to PAWS, 1401 Trout Road, State College, PA 16801 or to the Recreation Fund of Wynwood House, 122 Wynwood Dr., Centre Hall, PA 16828.
