Not sure what to say?

I was saddened to hear of the loss of Emma Rae, as she and her husband were my home teachers for several years when I lived on Emerson Avenue. Please accept my sympathy for your family's great loss.

Dear family,
I just learned of Aunt Emma Rae's passing. I am so sorry that I missed the opportunity to go to her funeral. I have such fond memories of dinners and games at your house. I even remember when we all went together to the movie South Pacific when it first came out. My children cherish the love birds that Aunt Emma Rae made for their weddings. Thank you for all the joy you have brought into my life.
Love,
Elaine
P.S. I can imagine the grand reunions that are...

Mrs. Ashton was my 7th grade English teacher at Highland High School in 1958-59. My boss just asked me how I could remember a teacher so long ago. I don't remember any other teachers from that year, but I remember appreciating Mrs. Ashton's gentle, encouraging ways. I was a very shy person, easily intimidated among high school students who resented the intrusion of several hundred junior high students waiting for a new school to be built. I worked very closely with Emma's son, Alan Ashton, as graduate students, as teachers at the University of Utah and at BYU and ocassionally at WordPercfect. In the long course of our co-operation in developing computer-music and education, including extended trips in the US, Japan and Europe, Alan's behaviour and courtesy always reflected his mother's kind and generous training and example.

Dear family of Emma Rae McKay Ashton,

I was a student of Emma Rae McKay's at Granite High School in 1937 through 1938 and graduated from there in 1939. "Miss McKay" was my favorite teacher! She had such a wonderful personality and a positive attitude about what was right. Her small stature gained respect from the largest stature of male students without any exceptions. Everyone knew where they were in her classroom for she never tolerated nonsense. Just good happy fun! Because...
