Very sad to hear of Gene's passing. He was indeed an important member of The Alpine Camera Club which was renamed The Atlanta Photographic Society in 2000. He served as President of the Club at one time, participating in its activities until recent years.

I was a math graduate student at Emory while Gene Hall was there in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was such a pleasant person. He was friendly and cared about everyone. I will always remember the contests he used to make up for us graduate students like the one where he found names of famous people (like "Walt Whitman") who had similar names to faculty in the math department and we had to figure out which faculty member it was ("Paul Waltman").
