MISHAWAKA - Evelyn Odiorne-Greene, age 89, of Mishawaka, formerly of Wakarusa, died peacefully, Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Elkhart Hospice House due to complications. Evelyn was born October 19, 1923 in Mishawaka to Ernest and Clara Belle (Murphy) Casper. She was united in marriage to Raymond L. Odiorne on April 6, 1940 in Mishawaka. He preceded her in death May 21, 1972. Evelyn was also married to DeVon Greene on June 17, 1973. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1983. Evelyn is survived by her children, Judy (Allen) Swenson of Dallas, TX, David (Cindy) Odiorne of Wakarusa, and Joyce Pack of Cassopolis, MI; 11 loving grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma English of Tallahassee, FL; and stepsisters, Connie Rogers of San Diego, CA and Marilyn Rossow of South Bend. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Geraghty on September 6, 2011 and a sister, Doris Syzmanski. Evelyn and her husband Raymond bought 19 Modern Restaurant in Wakarusa from Raymond's father, Jesse Odiorne in 1958. They diligently built an iconic establishment & renamed it Raymond's Restaurant which has become a family tradition & is now owned & operated by her son David. Evelyn loved to travel, enjoyed playing cards with friends and family and working crosswords. She had many talents, which included cooking, which she loved, or she could create a wardrobe with ease. She had a rare gift of keeping her sense of humor until the end. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Evelyn was an inspiration to all who knew her, an eloquently spoken woman, full of grace and class. We will miss you more than you would have ever imagined, but if we listen hard we can still hear your laughter. Family and friends may call from 2-8 Thursday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the funeral home. Rev. Terry Tyler, Grace Point Presbyterian Church will officiate and burial will be in Olive West Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to The Center for Hospice or The American Cancer Society.
