Frazier-Mitchell Funeral Service, Inc. - Houston Obituary

Fannie Archie Jenkins was born on March 2, 1930, in Huntsville, Texas, to the late Meachum Sr. and Hortense (Dickey) Archie. After the passing of her mother, she was lovingly raised by the late Alberta (McGowan) Archie, who nurtured her with care and faith.

Fannie accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a proud graduate of Samuel Walker Houston High School, Class of 1948. After moving to Houston, she united with Greater True Vine Baptist Church in 1952, where she served faithfully for many years before later reuniting with Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Max Toliver.

On May 8, 1949, Fannie married her childhood friend, Leotha “Jabo” Jenkins, and together they built a loving home and raised two children — Roberta and Allen Jenkins.

Fannie worked diligently for the Houston Independent School District, retiring in 1990 after many years of dedicated service as a custodian. Her work ethic, warm smile, and kind spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Meachum Sr., Hortense, and Alberta Archie; her husband, Leotha Jenkins; siblings, Meachum Jr., Adolphus, Alfred, Glen, W.D., Effie Lewis, Evelyn Frenchette Archie, and Doris Ross; and her godson, Paul Phillips.

Fannie leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Roberta Porter; son, Allen Jenkins Sr.; grandchildren, Gerald Porter (Ann), Kevin Porter, Allen Jenkins Jr., Kendrick Jenkins, and D’Aldrin Jenkins (Bridgett); sisters, Annette Harrison, Sonja Archie, and Marjorie Archie; brother, Thurston Archie; beloved niece/daughter, Karen Wilson (Robert); godchildren, Brenda, Gayla, Doug, Glen, Tracy, and Kim Phillips; lifelong friend, Petty Jean Lewis; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
