Not sure what to say?

Felix and I were fellow residents at UNMH; when we finished, we went our separate ways, in different areas of pathology. I thought of him a few months ago, and decided to look him up to give him a call, and I was flabbergasted to see that he had passed away, way to early. I have nothing but fond memories of Felix, and working with him was always fun; he had an inexhaustible supply of laughter, and was never mean-spirited. I regret that I had not sought him out sooner, which is a stark...

Reading through all of these hearfelt memories of Felix, you begin to truly understand how he touched so many. I met Felix as a student at CC while he taught a block on anatomy. His perspective on life truly impressed me. Felix provided me with a letter of recommendation that I have kept to this day. His thoughtful dedication and honesty was truly appreciated.

Felix was my freshman counselor at Colorado College. Kind, welcoming, fun and intelligent, he was a bright light in helping me navigate my first year of college. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing, and send heartfelt condolences.

I am so very sorry to hear of Dr. Martinez's passing. I worked with him when he rotated down to work at Kadlec. One of the nicest, most patient people I've worked with. He introduced the office to sushi too :) I learned a lot from his lectures and will miss him.

I attended Colorado College with Felix. He stood out in a sea of outstanding people. From the Honor Council to the cross country skiing mountain, he displayed his unbridled enthusiasm, keen internal compass and compassionate nature. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. Many of us are in shock when we read the terrible news in the CC Bulletin. We send our love to Jan and the kids!

Dear Janet,

My heart breaks for you in your loss of dear Felix. I so remember his no des and always shaking hands with everyone in the room and always including everyone. May your memories sustain you. Christa Rheindt Shimonkevitz .

Felix once described to us how his mother Rosy would prepare so much great Mexican food for Felix and his friends that the table "would groan" under the weight of all that she would prepare. Then he descibed how his friends (I.e. Lex Philippus et al) would lie around like pythons trying to digest all they couldn't help but wolf down.

What an unexpected untimely loss of a light with so much more to give. Memories are not sufficient...I wish I could sit with him now and laugh and be impolitic with him. Jan, I just don't know what to say; I am so sorry. I know the children will help buoy you, but know that we share your grief, if not its enormity to you. Felix was just an authentic, wonderful person, and I will not forget him as long as I live. I have often retold the story of him bamboozling Cooley Butler at Lumps and Bumps...

I learned at lunch today about Felix's passing. I could hardly believe it. A classmate of his, Steve Vander Veer, had shared with me this past year about what Felix had done over the years since I knew him. I was two years behind Felix in high school, and even then -- all those years ago at a young age -- he displayed on the football field where I knew him many of the traits I read that are posted here. Two years later he took the time to share with me his observations and encouragement...
