Spinelli - Ricciuti Funeral Home - Ansonia Obituary

SEYMOUR: Francesco Fata, age 80, a resident of Seymour for forty-five years, entered eternal rest on October 18, 2025, at Griffin Hospital in Derby, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Viola (Belmonte) Fata.

Born in Rose, Province of Cosenza, Calabria, Italy on October 9, 1945, he was the son of the late Pietro and Rosaria (Magaro) Fata. Francesco emigrated to Montreal, Canada, where he resided for five years, before moving to the United States in 1979 and settling in Connecticut. While living in Italy, he worked for FIAT for many years. Here in Connecticut, he was employed at E&L Instruments, as well as managing Wendy’s restaurants and various other restaurant and retail management positions. Francesco had many skills and talents. He spoke Italian, English, and French. He loved watching Italian soccer and cheering on his favorite team, Inter and never missed the Italian National team during World Cup matches. In his healthier years, Francesco enjoyed occasional trips to the casino, spending time at the beach, making homemade wine and being with his family, especially his loving grandchildren. Keeping in touch with his family in Italy through social media and online warmed Francesco’s heart.

In addition to his wife Viola, of 56 years, Francesco leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Rosaria Oliphant (Perry) of Seymour and Sonya Luce of Shelton, formerly of Oxford, son, Peter Fata (Laura) of Woodbridge, grandchildren, Jacob Oliphant of Seymour and Charlotte, Juliette, and Genevieve Fata all of Woodbridge, sisters, Angela Perri (Gaetano) of Seymour, Carmelina Cufone (Rocco) of Oxford and Silvana Gianni (Gaetano) of Cromwell along with several nieces and nephews who will lovingly remember Zio Franco as the funny uncle with the big smile. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Michael Luce.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday morning, his funeral will begin at 9:15 from the funeral home then proceed to Good Shepherd Church/St Nicholas Parish in Seymour for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment will immediately follow in Southford Cemetery in Oxford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Francesco’s memory may be made directly to the National Kidney Foundation at, www.kidney.org. Zio Franco....I have so many great memories starting with coming to your house for New Year's Eve with the family and seeing your happy smile and great energy light up a room.
