Fred Barrouk Obituary

LOWER ALLEN TWP. — Fred S. Barrouk, 88, of Lower Allen Township, died on Monday, April 7, 2014, at his home. He was the widower of Vesta (Kemmerer) Barrouk, his wife of 52 years, who passed in 2001.

He was born in 1925, in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Peter Elias and Angeline (Brody) Barrouk.

Mr. Barrouk served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aerial gunnery instructor during World War II.

Fred was founder and manager of Townline Appliance Center in Mechanicsburg for 30 years, retiring to Lake Heritage in Gettysburg.

He graduated from Meyers High School, class of 1943, and Penn State University, class of 1949. He pursued a career in commercial and finance and was an active member of the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Nittany Lion Club.

Born into St. Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre, he later belonged to the Methodist and the Presbyterian churches. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Camp Hill, and served a term on its church council. He was a member of the Freedom From Religion Foundation and a non-theist.

Fred is survived by a brother, Ben; sisters, Louise and Mildred; and niece, Marcia Nixon.

Uncle Fred will be very missed by my family for he touched my life and my children's lives in many ways. He definitely had a special way about him. May you rest in peace.
