What a terrible loss for his family , our Medical School and our country. Fred was a great man, a fine doctor and a true scholar. Every time I talked to him I learned something. How lucky all of us are to have been able to work alongside him.

We were ever so privileged to call Fred our colleague at the Tampa VA. He was well-loved and appreciated by patients, physicians, researchers, nurses, therapists. He was especially a wonderful mentor to our medical students, residents, and Infectious Disease fellows, who were always awed (as was I) by his intellect.
