Gary "Bud" Abernathy

Mr. Gary “Bud” Abernathy, 57, of 8238 Hallman Mill Road, Vale, died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at his home.

Born December 26, 1946 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Wayne Abernathy and survived by his mother, Edith Mitchem Abernathy of Vale. He was a truck driver for Foothills Trucking. He attended Hull’s Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Catherine Ann Willis Abernathy of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chris and Sharon Abernathy of Cherryville and Randy Abernathy of Lincolnton; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Abernathy Webb and her husband, Jody of Lincolnton; a sister, Dian Felmet of Hickory and three grandchildren, Jonathan Abernathy and Ashley and Logan Webb.

The funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at Hull’s Grove Baptist Church. The body will lie in state from 12:30 to 1:00. The Revs. Marcus Redding and Fred May are officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 4, 2004 at Stamey Funeral Home.
