DILLENGER, George "Stuart," of Richmond, Va., 82, died on June 28, 2010 after a long, courageous battle with lung cancer. Stuart grew up in the heart of the city of Richmond. He attended Sacred Heart Cathedral Boys School. When he was young, Stuart served his country during World War II as a drill sergeant. He worked for the Norfolk Virginia Pilot newspaper and later was a machinist in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and loved ships. Stuart was employed at the Owens Seat Cover Shop as an automobile trimmer in Roanoke, Va. He worked for the BT Crump Company in Richmond and later retired from the Arthur Fulmer Company. He loved being a salesman on the road and talking with people. Stuart was a devoted family man, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a fiercely loyal, passionate and protective man over those he loved and could always be counted on through thick and thin. Stuart's favorite things were fishing at the ocean, watching football, big band music and the "Larry" Welk Show. Stuart was known for his charismatic personality and sarcastic wit and was a legend to many in his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Betty Westwood; and son, Allan Dillenger. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Constance Dillenger Alves, son-in-law, Bruce Alves, and their daughter, Caitlin Alves; granddaughter, Cari Dillenger Martin; grandson, Jason Dillenger and his wife, Adrienne; great-grandchildren, Emily Cagle, Allan Martin, Olivia Dillenger and Jackson Dillenger. Stuart was also preceded in death by his brother, James Dillenger. He is also survived by his sisters, Audrey D. Owens, Jean D. Cahen, Norma P. Stuphin; and sister-in-law, Rowena Dillenger. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 2. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

My own Archie Bunker, what a love he was to me.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Connie, Bruce and Caitlin.
Your Dad will be missed - such a great guy; wonderful sense of humor and intense loyalty.
He's with your Mom, brother and Princess.

Great Uncle Stuart was a caring and funny man that will be missed. He will have the angels laughing along with him in heaven.

Uncle Stuart was the life of every family party. A genuinely kind and funny man. I will miss him.

Uncle Stuart,
You will be sorely missed. Your sarcastic wit rubbed off on me, which is a good thing. Connie, your father influenced more than I ever let him know. But I think he knew.

"Oh, how all of heaven rejoices when loved ones return home" Gods peace and love be with all of the Dillenger family, during this difficult time.
