Hazel Mothersell

Hazel Marie Reese Mothersell passed peacefully at home. She was a former resident of Monterey. Hazel was raised in Erick, Oklahoma. In 1948 she came to California and met Ken Mothersell. They were happily married for almost 69 years. Hazel started working as a nurse's aide in 1946 and continued through the years as an aide and a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She retired from CHOMP in 1979. Hazel and Ken spent their retirement years traveling for fishing trips to the Klamath river and to other parts of the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Hazel enjoyed gardening, needlework, and sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight of her nine siblings. She is survived by her husband Ken, her daughters Janet Campbell (Walt), Hope DeLeon (George), her four grandchildren, Caleb and Colleen Campbell, Matthew and Faith DeLeon, her sister Betty Taylor, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of VNA Hospice for their caring and compassion. Services will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, CA on Friday June 14 at 11:00am.

I have thought about you every day since you left us a year ago today and missed you terribly. So many times I have almost picked up the phone to give you a call. I miss hearing your voice. Dad, Hope and I love you very much and would give anything for one of your warm hugs. That actually is true of anyone that knew you, but especially your family. Miss you Mom.

Dear Mr. Mothersell, Janet & Hope,
It has been a year, time passes, but the memories of your wife & mother will be with you forever! Janet, I remember your mother sitting in the teal colored chair in your living room relaxing after work in her nurses uniform. She always had a sweet smile & would listen to what we wanted to share with her. My mother passed away 5 years ago & I still think of her all the time. Maybe your mother & mine visit each other in Heaven. May Hazel rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear wife, mother & grandmother. I was surprised to read the sad news! Growing up & now I remember her as such a sweet, kind hearted & gentle lady. She will always be in your hearts! You must know that she is in Heaven; she was such a special person.

Dear Hope and Janet, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. I just want you to know that I'm thinking about you during this time. I drive by your old house in Monterey every day, as I still live on Littleness. So many memories of when you lived in the neighborhood. I remember when I had my first child at CHOMP 46 years ago your mother was the first one to dress him the day we left the hospital. Thoughts and prayer to you and your whole family. God Bless you.

Hazel was our neighbor and friend for the past 43 years and we will miss her so much. Hazel was sharp as a tack until the end when her body gave out after many years of surgeries and illness. Hazel was loved by our children and grandchildren for her warmth and caring and her wonderful sense of humor. We will all remember Hazel forever with love and gratitude for having her in our lives for so many years. Hazel, you will be missed and we're so grateful to have had you in our lives.
