Idell Jenkins Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

JENKINS, Idell IDELL McGINNIS JENKINS Idell McGinnis Jenkins, 92, of Lithia Springs, GA passed away September 8th. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry Roscoe Jenkins in 1996. Their marriage of over 70 years was a wonderful union of love and devotion to God, to each other and to their family. Her portrait began as a pioneer with her joining the women of Atlanta in service at the Bell Bomber Plant during World War II. In the early 1950s, and while raising six children, she discovered her passion and unique talent for merchandising and decorating after joining the renowned Atlanta establishment, Rich's Department Store, in downtown Atlanta. After 25 years of unprecedented service, she completed her career at the neighborhood Rich's Cobb Center location. Her devout calling to God is reflected by her devotion as a founding member of the Faith Evangelical Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She also loved singing in a family gospel quartet for many years. Idell was a charter member of the Sweetwater Garden Club and a member of the Lithia Springs Woman's Club. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Mona and Jim Searcy of Powder Springs, Janice and Russell Alexander of Atlanta, Gary "Butch" and Carole Jenkins of Marietta, Mickey Jenkins of Carrollton, Sharon and Danny Wilson of Douglasville and Larry and Michelle Jenkins of Lithia Springs; sister, Hazel Ragsdale of Sharpsburg and brother, Fred McGinnis, a resident of Presbyterian Village; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. The last eight years of her life were spent as a resident of Presbyterian Village, Specialty Care Unit. Her strong Christian faith and positive approach to life made her an example for all to follow. And now, with Roscoe by her side, the heavenly choir is joining in singing their favorite gospel hymn, "What A Day That Will Be"! The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, September 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Community Church in Douglasville, Ga. with Rev. Jim Garrett officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Flowers accepted or donations can be made to Presbyterian Village, Austell, Ga. ,"She was the most loving person, I have ever known. She was never talking about herself and when I was with her, she always gave me a piece of her love to take with me. I always enjoyed being with her, and no matter the circumstances, she always had a smile. She was a prayer warrior, and that was evident from the way she handled, fortunes and misfortunes. You could see Christ in her and her love from Him reflected her love that was transformed into the faces of all who came near her.

Love,

I will always love Maw-Maw. She was the only grandmother I had. She was a special lady and I will miss her.
