JACK PARL

PARL--Jack, of Bayside, NY. and Palm Beach, FL passed away peacefully on January 18, 2011 after a valiant battle with NSIP, an uncommon auto immune disease of the lungs. Jack was born January 11, 1943 in Tallinn Estonia to the late Charles V. and Ann and is survived by his brother Charles. He graduated Stuyvesant High School and attended Cornell University and Queens College and received his Ph.D. in English Literature from St. John's University. He wrote his Ph.D. thesis about Henry Miller the controversial 20th Century writer. He taught at St. John's and over 25 years at Union County College, New Jersey at the Scotch Plains and Cranford campuses from where he retired in 2005 with the title of Emeritus Professor. He was an avid tennis player and was a member of Northshore Tennis Club in Bayside where he played on the Senior Mens Team and in Palm Beach he played for the Phipps Park Senior Mens Team. He was an intellectual gentleman and will be fondly remembered for his wit and charm and his passion for literature. Jack will be remembered at a Memorial Service at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Avenue at 81st Street on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11:30am.
