Mrs. Jacqueline Anne Thompson, Boynton Beach, FL., formerly from Bethesda, MD., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer on June 5, 2015.
Mrs. Thompson (Jan), wife of Anthony J Thompson (Tony) of Thompson & Pugsley, PLLC, Washington, DC, was born on September 4, 1944 in Oak Ridge, TN. She was the daughter of Major General Kenneth D Nichols and Mrs. Jacqueline Darrieulat Nichols.
Jan’s family ultimately moved to Washington, DC where she graduated high school from The National Cathedral School for Girls. She attended Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA, studied abroad in France for a year and graduated from George Washington University. Following graduation she worked at National Geographic as a researcher.
Jan and Tony married on November 6, 1971 in Barnesville, Maryland. Jan devoted much of her time to charitable organizations. She chaired the Corcoran Ball for the Corcoran Galleries twice, chaired the Washington, DC Annual Antique Show, and served as a Barnesville School Board Member among others. Jan was a volunteer assistant to First Lady Barbara Bush during George H.W. Bush’s Presidency. She was a member of the Chevy Chase Club in Maryland, The Sulgrave Club, Washington, DC, Gulf Stream Bath and Tennis Club in Delray Beach, FL, and The Dunes in Boynton Beach, FL.
Above all else Jan’s deepest dedication and joy were her family and friends. She was a tennis player, an avid traveler, a decorator, a flower arranger, a talented hostess and a lover of all Labrador retrievers!
She is survived by her husband and their two children, Nicole T. Vereen of Alpharetta, GA, and Anthony J. Thompson, Jr. of Bethesda, MD.; a brother, Kenneth David Nichols, Jr.; and five grandchildren, Declan and Chase Vereen and Skyler, Colten and Beckham Thompson.
There will be a Memorial Service at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, 3300 S Seacrest Blvd, Boynton Beach, FL 33435 at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 10th, followed by a reception at Jan’s house.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome a donation to Jan’s favorite charities, Wounded Warrior Project or Labrador Rescue.
