I just learned of Jim's passing from our mutual friends Fred and Cathy Short, who are now our neighbors at Mirabella in Seattle. As an environmental consultant working in hazardous waste disposal and recycling, I had the honor of working with Jim on various committees and projects. I admired and respected him greatly. I met Jim over a ping pong table at a 1971 DOE organizational meeting. He won with his steady, consistent play--typifying Jim's professional and unflappable life style. It was my privilege to call him my friend.
