James Meserve Obituary

James Meserve
1962 - 2018
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - James
Meserve, 55, formerly of Portland, passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2018.
He was born in Waterville, the son of Florence (Bonin) Meserve and the late Robert Meserve.
Jim graduated from Winslow High School in 1980, and earned his Bachelor of Arts in economics and journalism from the University of Maine, Orono, four years later.
He started his career in the Boston area working at the Stride Rite Corp, Strawberries Music & Movies, Lojack Corporation, and Cellular USA.
During his time in Boston, Jim attended Boston College's Wallace E. Carroll School of Management, earning an MBA.
In 1998, he found success in the art publishing and licensing business, serving as president of Quartro Publishing, followed by an appointment to CEO/president of Applejack Art Partners.
In 2006, Jim ventured out on his own to create and manage NextDay Art in Portland. A serial entrepreneur who started several small businesses, Jim was always looking for the next exciting and challenging business opportunity.
He recently earned his real estate license and was to attend law school in the fall.
Jim had a great smile and was always quick to show it. He could not pass up the opportunity of a good joke or friendly tease; it was something his friends and family knew to expect, and was a gift that he inherited from his late father.
Jim enjoyed travelling throughout the U.S., and had the pleasure of calling many cities his home. He lived and worked in such places as Santa Barbara, La Jolla, Manchester, Vt., New York City, Boston, Portland and Scottsdale.
His many passions included working out, music, playing golf, and talking sports with his four brothers.
Jim will be dearly remembered as funny, sensitive, proud and intelligent. He was a loving son, brother and uncle. His passing is a huge loss to his family and friends, and to all the many people who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Florence, of Winslow; his brothers, John, and his wife Anke, of New York City; Paul, and his wife, Patricia, of Falmouth; and Mark and Matthew, of Winslow; and his nieces and nephews, Margaret and Kathleen of Falmouth, and Brendan, Anna, and Luke of New York.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held in late May. To express condolences, or participate in Jim's online tribute, please visit:

I am very sorry for the loss of Jim, my sincere sympathies goes out to the family. I have Jim to thank for hiring me years ago into the art industry, an industry I am still working in. He was always fair, well respected and full of energy and ideas. After our ways parted, it was always good to see him at trade shows. I could see his smile from all the way down the hallway as I approached. Peace to you Jim!

Dearest Meserve family,
My deepest from my heart condolences for a monumental loss for all of us. My you find comfort in family and the many friends who knew him. The fond memories we who were blessed to share with him will bring some comfort in this difficult time. Jim was my best friend, and I will always cherish the many many wonderful memories of life with him. The Smiley Ave Meserve home was my second home; a home full of pranks, laughter and above all love. Jim was one of those guys who had it all, looks, brains, quick wit and marvelous sense of humor. It's been a few years since we spoke but I will still miss him dearly.

It lit him up, and he also had the ability to do the same for others. Please let me know about the May Memorial Service, as I will plan to share more of these memories with family and friends. Jim will be remembered always.

Dear Aunt Florence, Cousins John, Paul, Mark and Matt,
My brother, Marc, notified me about the loss of Jimmy, who was my Godson. I was shocked since he is so young. Yes, he always had that smile that lit up the room. I often think about the year spent with you and your boys when I was a teacher in Waterville. Please let me know when the May memorial will take place. If possible, I would like to be there to honor Jim's memory. May God give you peace and comfort you during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Meserve, John, Paul, Mark and Matt. In my youth Jim and I were very close friends. We spent many sleep overs at each other's house, well mostly at Jim's house on Smiley Ave. I thank Jim for turning me on to different music. We used to go to DeOrsey's record store in Waterville quite often to buy albums. They would always play new stuff for us. I remember one day we went in there in 1976 and they were just unpacking the 1st album from the band Boston. Jim said I heard that this was pretty good. They played it for us and I bought it. So I thank Jim for that, the first Boston album in Waterville was purchased by yours truly. Jim and I drifted apart through high school choosing different paths, but he will always hold a special place in my heart as one of my best childhood friends. I'll never forget that smile. Rest in peace my brother.
