JANINE MARINO, 58 LOVES PARK - Janine Marino, 58, of Loves Park passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, in her home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Oct. 26, 1955, in Rockford to Lawrence "Babe" and Jean Marino. Janine was a graduate of West High school. She would later marry Chuck Tongue. Janine was employed by Mattison Machine Works for over 15 years, where she became the first female employee in upper management. To The Entire Marino Family & Friends,

Janine and I first met as classmates, during the first freshman class instituted in the Rockford School District in 1969 at West High School. Open campus was a first and continued for many years, until it was sadly retracted. Janine and I were always up for playing some hooky and going to Beaky's for a root beer float, then go out to Anna Page Park. It was much more fun than school. In all of my school days, I never met a more genuine, honest, sweet and sincere friend – like Janine. We even went out on a couple of dates and remained dear friends during school. Janine was one of the first girls I every asked out at the early age of just 14 years-old. I was two weeks older than Janine and I never let her forget it. Janine never made me feel like the loner, that in secret – I actually was. Janine made me feel accepted, beautiful and normal – a gift she had with all of those who spent any amount of time around her. Janine accepted people for who they were without any judgment. When I heard news that she had passed – I couldn't stop crying. School was difficult all day - I reminisced about our lives back then and just could not concentrate.

The memorial service was beautiful and the number of friends and family there – a true testament to her generous life. The eulogy presented by her nephew - just awesome. My heart aches for all those that were very close to her. She was one of a kind, a tried and true friend, one that would accept an apology and forget about whatever was done wrong. Janine's laugh was so infectious, so unique - that when we laughed together – it really healing healed my inner pain. I hope that Janine knew how tenderly she touched my life, my heart and my very soul. She really saved my life. I'm positive the world is a better place because she was in it and all of those whose life she was a part of. My thoughts, prayers and daily meditations are with all of Janine's survivors close to her, especially her extended family and friends.

Peace In Your Hearts, Minds and Spirits – Always,

Ernie Plett
