Baca's Funeral Chapels - Las Cruces Obituary

Our beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and dear friend, JESSICA RAQUEL HERNANDEZ, a lifelong resident of Las Cruces, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, surrounded by those who loved her most.

Born October 5, 1987, to Linda Hernandez and Edward Smith, Jessica was known for her gentle spirit, unwavering devotion to family, and quiet strength. She worked as a cashier, where her warm smile and kind heart touched many. A woman of faith, Jessica attended the Catholic Church and carried her beliefs with grace and humility.

Jessica’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her two loving sons, Jeremiah Gonzalez and Jesse A. Estrada (Mireya), who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her father, Eddie Smith; her brother, Albert Hernandez (Stephanie); and her aunt, Elva Hernandez, all from Las Cruces. Their love and memories will carry her legacy forward.

Jessica was preceded in death by her cherished mother, Linda Hernandez; her aunt, Irma Hernandez; her maternal grandmother, Ventura “Natalia” Hernandez; her paternal grandmother, Lola Contreras; and her uncle, Freddie Smith. Their reunion in heaven brings comfort to those she leaves behind.

Visitation will begin at 2 PM on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Baca’s Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road, followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 3 PM. In accordance with Jessica’s wishes, cremation will follow, and inurnment of her cremains will be held at a later date.
