Joan Finney Eddy

Joan Finney Eddy died in peace on August 14, 2014. She was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on July 14, 1930. Following her nurse's training, in 1958, she and her husband, William Eddy, moved from Brooklyn, New York to Long Beach, California.

Joan was a good wife, a good mother, a good grandmother, a good great-grandmother, a good friend, and, always, a good Catholic. She was devoted to Our Lady of Refuge Church and St. Mary's Hospital Guild, where she presided as President from 1980-1982. Joan was an avid traveler and outdoorswoman, biking, walking and gardening whenever time permitted.

Joan is survived by William, her husband of 62 years. She was the mother of nine children, of whom seven survive. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. Joan will be remembered by her wide group of family and friends for her warmth and beautiful smile.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 19th at Our Lady of Refuge Church at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Our Lady of Refuge Church School or St. Mary's Hospital Foundation. Please sign the guestbook at www.presstelegram.com/obits.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Dr. Eddy,

i just learned of Joan's death and am sending prayers and good thoughts your way. I remember babysitting for you when i was in high school. Your kids were the best to sit for. i'm so glad my parents and you both shared a long term friendship and my memories of that and the Park Estates days are vivid and loving.

Our sympathy and prayers are with you. i will miss Joan's kind and smiling face.
